Queer Artists & Players
QA&P is an all-volunteer, recreational, art and theatre organization for the queer/trans community in Greater Boston.
QA&P’s mission is to celebrate queer/trans identities and experiences by providing community-based creative outlets.
Queer Artists & Players envisions a world where queer/trans creativity and joy is available to all.
These are things QA&P strives for optimistically and also know we will fail along the way!
Join us as we build a queer/trans community arts org that laughs in the face of a cisheteronormativity.
The Q - Queer
queering gender and sexuality
We welcome queer/trans people of all genders and sexualities, across identities and experiences. Our community is shaped by many kinds of differences: race, disability, culture, class, gender, age, and more. We believe everyone deserves the chance to create art and explore identity, not just as artists, but as whole people.
There is power in seeing things differently — through a queer lens. Whether we’re crafting something entirely new or queering a beloved classic, we treat every work as a chance to (re)imagine the world and our place in it. We stay open to the odd; curiosity drives us to ask questions, try new things, and sit with the unknown. It’s how we expand our understanding of ourselves, each other, and the world around us.
The A - Art
creativity, visions, and dreams
As queer and trans people, art gives us tools to defy norms, tell our stories, and build the beautiful world we want to live in — one joyful and unruly act at a time. We welcome people of any experience and skill level, centering a spirit of joyful amateurism mixed with considerate skill-sharing.
To us, art is boundless. It is the dance of self-expression, the joy of creating something out of nothing, the freedom to imagine otherwise. Imagination is how we make meaning, challenge norms, and dream toward something better. QA&P can be a space where the crazy vision you had in your head as a teen can become a reality.
The & - Collectivity
art with love and support
Art can be vulnerable, so we approach it with care. We nurture an environment that is emotionally safe, respectful, and rooted in mutual support. We use creativity as a bridge across loneliness, building something beautiful in its place: friendship and belonging.
We keep artist participation low-cost or free, our vibe low-pressure, and our doors open to anyone who wants to make or experience art in community. Our community is welcoming, fluid, and ever-changing; people come and go as they need to, and that’s part of the magic. Whether you’re here for one show or for years, you’re part of something intentional and real.
The P - Play
joy, celebration, and silliness
We believe in the power of play. In a world that often defines queerness through struggle, we make space to be silly on purpose. Our work begins with the world we live in; we then choose laughter, storytelling, and escapism as our form of resilience.
Play is how we explore identities, examine boundaries, and experience new ways of being together. Queer joy is at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re performing, creating, or simply witnessing, we aim to delight — with stories that are touching, funny, familiar, and full of heart.
